I’m Not Wearing Any Pants:
Undressing a Diagnosis
an art memoir about recovery from childhood religious trauma through creative symbolism.
When Memoirtistry was born, I received a formal diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from a history of chronic trauma, including ongoing spiritual/religious abuse. In childhood, I experienced repeat exposure to the beliefs and rituals of an extreme religious cult. This disorder is complex. There is no “normal” for me to return; I cannot cut the symptoms out of me, I can only learn to lessen the triggers. Expressing myself through memoir and art is my way forward.
